Eidsbugarden and Galdeberget 9.-11. 3. 2018
Saturday, 10 March 2018
Evening ride with the only mean of transport departing from Tyin in winter.
On a sunny morning in Jotunheimen.
Fondsbu mountain hut at Eidsbugarden.
There is supposed to be a road here in summer.
Winter transport is done by snowcats.
Except for dog sleds.
A short ski touring trip to Torshamaren for the beginning.
Snowed-in huts.
Impressed by the magical landscape.
A lot of fresh snow from a day before.
Hjelledalstinden and Falketing envailed in fog.
Flat top, as usual.
Reaching the highest point of Torshamaren (1440 m)
Tyin Lake in the south and weak halo around the sun.
Getting ready for departure.
Fantastic skiing in thick powder.
Barbecue waiting for just returned skiers.
It was warm in the sun despite subzero temperatures.
Another short skiing trip after the lunch.
Torshamaren in the background.
Soft silky light and soft snow.
Approaching the top.
On an 1400 m high nameless top.
Gathering for the whole-day trip next morning.
Radiation fog and -15 °C.
The trip began with a 5 km long crossing of Bygdin Lake.
The fog was slowly dissipating.
Reaching the start of ascent to Galdeberget at 1050 m elevation.
Still in the fog.
It was considerably warmer outside the cold air pool.
Main paths are marked with sticks.
Continuing off the path.
There was gradually more and more view.
Lunchtime at about 1500 m elevation.
Towards Galdeberget that is in the back.
A lot of powder here as well.
On the steepest part.
Very lucky with the weather. Two sunny day just between two snowy days.
It is not far anymore.
One of the nicest views in Jotunheimen.
South face of the Galdeberget Mountain.
Continuing along the ridge.
Relatively flat terrain just before the summit.
Parking skis before climbing the last few meters.
At 2075 m.
Eastern part of the famous Bygdin Lake.
It is the Jotunheimen where are the most of the mountains higher than 2000 m are in Norway.
Mountains of Hemsedal in the south.
Jotunheimen - the home of Jotnar, who is a giant in Norse mythology.
Panorama towards north. Slettmarkpiggen (2164 m), Mesmogtinden (2264 m) & co.
The tallest peaks from left to right: Storen (2405 m), Sentraltind (2348 m), Styggedalstindane (2352 m), Jervvasting (2351 m) and Urdanostind (2048 m) in front of them.
Galdgøppigen (2469 m) is the highest mountain of Scandinavia.
Bukkehøi (2314 m)
Eidsbugarden as seen from Galdeberget.
A delightful powder skiing on a way down.
One of the participants was probably less hapy about the powder.
The last slope ...
... before returning to the lake.
Slettmarkkampen (2032 m) in the evening.
Eidsbugarden surroundings during the blue hour.
The Fondsbu hut.
Winter house?
Galdeberget as seen from Eidsbugarden.
Eidsbugarden hotel.
Returning back to civilisation with snowcats.
Fully packed.
Old and noisy Bombardier vehicles.
Approximate travel speed was 20 km/h.
Last sun rays before the next snowfall began ... and before ride back to Oslo.
