Finse 14. - 16. 8. 2016
Tuesday, 16 August 2016
Finse is the highest train station of Oslo-Bergen railway.
A lot of snow in Scandinavian Mountains during the winter.
Mostly private cabins with a hotel, few tourist facilities
and a big mountain hut on peninsula.
Finse lake.
Hiking in the Hallingskarvet national park.
Solfluction lobe.
Slowly flowing regolith together with vegetation.
Many lakes and late-lying snow patches.
Slate
DNT trail to Raggsteindalen.
Leaving the marked trail.
Waterfall from thawing snow.
This once was a snow patch.
Red snow?!?
Up the mountain and reaching the clouds.
Barren landscape at 1800 m elevation.
Returning back to the trail over snow patches.
Ups, better to find another way.
And here we are
back on the trail.
Escaping approaching rain.
Flakavatnet and some sun rays after the rain.
Snow patch for imagination.
Outflow from the lake through snowpatch.
Crossing another valley and river at Storfonnosi.
They still have a nice weather at the eastern side of Mountains.
Approaching the final destination.
Geiterygghytta
At the entrance: welcome to the exit.
Counter.
More modest rooms.
And more fancy ones.
Each with a plant name. Can be used as a mountain vegetation guide.
Dormitory.
Dying room for shoes and clothes that get here very often wet.
And very special pets ...
that take care of fresh eggs.
Geiterygg hut and lake next day.
On a way back to Finse.
This one got a blue mark.
Interesting mounds on the way.
Omnsvatnet.
Ploughing boulder.
One of many such cairns on the way.
Again reaching 1650 m.
And the weather is finally getting better.
Hardangerjokulen ice cap.
Klemsbu hut. It looks like the upper entrance is for the winter.
Cascade falls at Finseelvi.
And a bridge for crossing the river.
Back at Finse lake.
Camping is allowed only at the other side.
Hopefully nobody removes the small stone underneath.
Before leaving a quick look at the glaciers.
Another footbridge under the glacier meltwater river.
Going up
on the moraine.
Complex moraine ridges and lakes.
At Blåisen glacier tongue.
Striations.
Muddy meltwater.
Recent morains.
And the most recent.
Crevasses.
Outflow from the glacier.
Mountain sorrel is the first to colonize the moraine.
Back in finse and time to go home.
