Fjords of Møre and Romsdal 23.8. 2021
Monday, 23 August 2021
The legs were very heavy and sore after all the hiking. So we just drove around the fjords.
Valldal, a town on the other side of Trollstigen.
Fjørå, just west of Valldal along the Tafjord.
The mild fjord climate is ideal for growing fruit trees thus many orchards can be seen on the slopes.
Sødalsvika and Muldal hanging valley.
Tafjord ends where an eponymous town is located.
Tafjord and Litlejordhornet in the back rising from sea level to 1560 m.
Boat houses by the fjord coast.
Cut slate as traditinal roofing material.
Still life in the fjords was troubled in 1934 by a 17 m high tsunami wave that was caused by a rockfall (the furthermost scar above the water level).
Jimdalen just above Tafjord. More fresh rockfalls around.
A peek into Sunnylvsfjorden while waiting for a ...
.. ferry to Stranda.
Combined bus stop and viewing platform in Stranda.
Hola chica.
Møbelbautaen statue as commemoration to Stranda's thriving furniture industry
Eleven km to Slogen that will have to wait for the next time because of the bad weather approaching.
Stranda Church
And adjacent cemetery.
A memorial of a poet as perceived by usual people.
But for geomorphologists it is a good opportunity to identify lichen growth rates.
Through Emdalen Valley on the way south from Stranda.
Passing a viewing platform of probably the most famous fjord; Geirangerfjord.
People actually lived here before they made all the tunnels.
A detour to another hidden fjord through Skjåstaddalen.
A phone booth in Bjørke converted into book exchange station.
Bjørke Church
It is here that Storfjorden begins.
Hydro power plant receiveing water from a lake up on the plateau at 700 m.
Storfjorden extending to Hjørundfjorden.
Norwegian kelp (Ascophyllum nodosum) is a common intertidal plant in the fjords.
The majestic fjords with kelp in the foreground.
Photographer's better half.
Scenic village of Viddal.
Staying overnight in Høynes where Nordfjord splits into Eidsfjorden and Isefjorden.
And a framed view of the Bukkenibba and Blånibba for good night.
