Hardangerjøkulen 23. 9. 2017
Saturday, 23 September 2017
Close to Finse on a late September day.
Up to do field work after a seminar at research station in Finse.
The Hardangerjøkulen ice cap is today's destination.
With Bas and Clara.
Over the snowfield.
And boulders.
The first target of this day is rockwall close to Nordre Kongsnuten.
A Blåisen glacier tongue.
Getting ready for drilling.
And roping up. (Photo: Clara)
A temperature logger will be installed in the hole.
Panorama of the site and valley.
Clara decided to return while me and Bas are trying to find a rockwall even higher.
Hikers returning from the glacier.
Roping up for the glacier.
Through the fog, not so far from the Jøkul hut.
To the most steep part of a rock face.
Making an anchor.
Marking the location.
And here we go.
The fog cleared up for a moment and and unveiled the view of Middalen glacier tongue.
Well done Bas!
And even better view slightly later.
Coiling the rope and returning after the work was done.
More holes in the sky offered nice evening colours.
Gaudy lake photos ...
