Early Sunday morning on San Francisco streets.

Winters are very mild at the Pacific Coast and bottlebrushes keep blooming during the winter.
Also palms seem to like it.
More traditional-looking church.
A slightly less traditional-looking church.
And more medeival-looking church.
Perpendicular net of streets regardless of topography.
Some more impressions from parks.
Intruder.
???
In the downtown under skyscrapers.
Old buildings will make space for more high-rises.
As for instance this tower.
Temporary bus station.
Cupid is shooting in the ground in Rincon Park.
The old Ferry terminal, from the times before the earthquake in 1906.
Downtown from Pier 14 where Rambo was guarding it.
It was possible to check the tile paintings only after he left.

Hippie paintings are inviting for a cold drink.
First student van?
Fire brigade.
Some more of streets.
Some also with cable cars.
Some slopes were eventually too steep so they had to build winding road, which is now besieged by tourists.
As in medieval times, you first have to climb a wall.
And then fire a camera.
And maybe even make a selfie.
The Lombard Street from tourist perspective.
It might be also a nice garden, but probably not during winter.
Some blooming trees nevertheless.
And parked old Volvo.
Very neat architecture.
...
Huntington Park and Grace Cathedral.
A ballthrower.
Proud pigeon.
It can also rain heavily in winters.
This meeting has nothing to do with falling but is the ultimate Earth and Space Science conference.
Just one floor of 3 conference halls.
Poster hall without an end.
And to the other side.
Good luck American colleagues!
A dinner at a garlic restaurant Stinky Rose.
Stinky but tasty meat loaf.
A rather ineffective public transport. It usually stops every 200 m.
The bridge.
An interesting way how to show different stages of bridge constructions.
A special effort has been put on visual design so that bridge would fit well in the scenery and at the same time be visible for passing ships.
Almost 2 km long and towers rising up to 230 m.
Changing lanes back to 3:3 after morning rush hour.
"NO TRESPASSING! Violators will be cited! " I wish it would be so easy for a scientist to get cited also in Europe. Or maybe not! :)
The Bridge from the northern side of Golden Gate Strait.
Horseshoe Bay with San Francisco Bay in the background.
The Lone Sailor watching over San Francisco.
Fell like jumping?
And again Golden Gate from the San Francisco side.
Baker Beach
One of several fortifications built at the beginning of 20th century.

On the Presidio Beach on this windy day.
Nice but hazardous zone.
A good place to meet ex-colleagues from Potsdam :)
Burton is trying to explain something to San Francisco.
Alcatraz Island, which was a military fortification and prison, became a recreational area in 1972.

Ghirardelli Square.
A queue for the touristic cable car goes all around to the other side. Want to join?
Somebody is playing X-mas songs being dressed as X-man.
Popular sea lions at Pier 39.
Resting in a spiral formation.
And in sardines-in-a-can formation.
Black sheep.
Evening at Pier 39.
Christmas-time decorated street on the pier.
It is one of the main tourist San Francisco atractions.
A less nice side of San Francisco. A lot of homeless people in the city centre.
Entrance to Chinatown at Grant avenue.
Chinese lanterns
and Chinese goods for sale.
Traditional Chinese music, such as you usually hear in Chinese restaurants, this time live.

Neat San Francisco trams.
From inside.
Yeah, I'm the man.
The Castro Street in Castro District is one of the most famous symbol of homosexual activism in the world.
Everywhere rainbows, a symbol for LGBT (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender) Pride, but also peace.
Hippie-coloured car.
Decorated houses as well.
A bit further away from Castro District some more mediterranean-like houses.
...
Close to Twin Peaks.
East side of the city with Downtown on the left from the Twin Peaks.
Tourists in action.
Others prefer just to chat.
Western part with Golden Gate bridge on the left.
Yeah.
Close to Haight-Ashbury district, where hippie movement started in 1967.
No comment needed.
