Singapore is a multicultural city as a result of its trading history, which brought together many different cultures from Asia and Europe.

Despite that the Singapore is so heavily urbanised (90 %), it still has many parks and forests. The largest is central Catchment Nature Reserve, which is a secondary forest revived after being cut.

Such a plant, called Dumb Cane, Dieffenbachia seguine, dieffenbachia in Slovenian, used to grow in my room.

Common red stem fig (Ficus variegata) has figs growing directly from the stem. Each species of fig tree relies on one species of fig wasps for pollination.

Simpoh Air, Dillenia suffruticosa, dillenia in Slovenian. It is used as hair wash or cooking ingredient and its leaves were used as food containers in the past.

Giant Rattan Palm (Plectocomia elongata).

The backward pointing spines help the rattan tree to cling onto neighbouring trees and grow above their canopy.

Common Mahang (Macaranga bancana) growing in a suppressed state and waiting for any trees in the vicinity to fall and providing enough light to start its tree life.

The afternoon downpour started at around 14:00.

It became a fully sovereign state in 1965 building its economy on trading history.

Singapore became financial and trading centre of Asia, which is making it one of the wealthiest parts of the world.
