Snøhetta 21.-22.9. 2019
Sunday, 22 September 2019
Geomorphologist's careful eye spots drumlins when entering Dovrefjell from Dombås.
Svånåtindan and Snøhetta are rising above the mountain plateau in the north.
Muskox was brought to Dovrefjell from Greenland several times, for the first time in 1932. Today's populations stabilised around 300 specimen.
Snøheim hut can be reached with bus ride.
Gale winds from north direction creating waves on the small lake nearby.
It didn't stop us from making track towards Snøhetta.
Cryoplanation terraces on the foothills.
Well visible with discontinuous snow cover.
Staying overnight at Gamle Reinheim.
After cleaning snow we occupied the existing shelter, which helped a bit but the first half of the night was still shaky.
Hiding from the wind.
Preparing of the photographer's and his better half's evening snack.
Flatness of norwegian mountains and Snøheim in the south.
Waking up in a calm morning on a blockfield.
Gamle Reinheim.
Istjørni lake.
Jotunheimen in the distance. Three peaks on the right are Galdhøpigen.
Interesting moraine in Grøndalen. It looks like glacier was terminating up the valley. And indeed it did.
The path to the Snøhetta peak goes over large boulders.
It went faster on the September snow.
Approaching the Stortoppen (2286 m), which is the highest peak of Snøhetta.
View to the north.
A small glacier feeding the lake below.
Radio station on the summit.
Large cirque cut in to Snøhetta. This mountain was believed to be the highest in Norway before they explored Jotunheimen.
Trollheimen Mountains in the north.
I assume that the trasmitters are hidden inside the tower because they would be destroyed by rime.
Some are crossing the whole Snøhetta ridge.
Frajer on the summit.
And his better half.
The hike was followed by a fieldwork on Juuvas in Jotunheimen.
Trond the surveyor above the sea of clouds.
Measuring soliflucion lobes.
Glitertinden (2457 m) with Grotbrean glacier on the left and lateral moraine underneath.
The top of the fog oscillated between 1300 and 1600 m. It created this rime on the grass.
And a halo.
