Storžič 20. 7. 2020
Monday, 20 July 2020
Early morning in front of Dom pod Storžičem hut.
A cabin at Planina Jesenje
Hiking in a slightly different settings this time.
Lomščica Valley under.
We are taking the most challenging trail to Storžič Mountain via Žrelo (chasm).
Steep trail on the edge of a gully.
...
Protected by wire ropes at several places.
Traversing the slope by the cavity.
Justyna is still a bit stoned from having to wake up so early.
The mood improved together with gained elevation.
Diverse path continues through Žrelo.
Slovenian Alps are much richer in vegetation that Scandinavian Mountains. Mouse-ear chickweed, Cerastium carinthiacum, Koroška smiljka in Slovenian.
Pinus mugo shrubs grow above the forest line.
Rampion, Phyteuma sieberi, Sieberjev repuš in Slovenian.
Meeting the sun just before reaching the ridge.
A traverse to left.
And up.
Ridge to Psica, with Triglav being the highest mountain of Julian Alps in the distance.
About 300 elevation metres remaining to the summit of Storžič.
Combination of gravel path ...
.. and some ferrata sections.
Hai hai.
One of the most famous alpine plants, Edelweiss, Leontopodium alpinum or kranjska planika in Slovenian, was pretty abundant on the meadows above the forest line.
Ubiquitous mountain avens, Dryas octopetala, Alpska velesa in Slovenian.
The cross on Storžič summit is already visible in the distance.
A bit of rock scrambling ahead.
And dangerous mountain beasts crossing our path.
A look back on the summit ridge.
And here we are on the summit of Shitty Mountain (Posrana gora in Slovenian). Not for long. It is completely covered in deep sheep shit.
Nobody wanted to stay there because of terrible stench. The city of Kranj in the background.
We also found a place on the side for lunchtime.
With a view on Jezersko.
And Dobrča Mountain on the left and Karavanke Mountains with Begunjščica, Vrtača and Stol on the right.
More alpine vegetation. Alpine toadflax, Linaria alpina, alpska madronščica in Slovenian, is able to withstand the harshest conditions with least soil.
Alpine poppy, Papaver alpinum subsp. kerneri, kernerjev mak in Slovenian.
Less demanding descent via Škarjev rob.
The better half is enjoying climbing.
Škarjev rob.
Look back on Storžič.
Returning through the forest to the hut where we started.
